NEW: Former Vice President Walter Mondale Dies at 93

Former US Vice President Walter Mondale died at the age of 93 Monday.

Mondale served as Jimmy Carter’s Vice President and was the Democrat nominee for president in 1984.

Ronald Reagan defeated Walter Mondale in a historic landslide victory in 1984.

According to Mondale’s spokesperson, the former Vice President died peacefully and of natural causes.

Mondale spoke by phone on Sunday with President Biden and former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, as well as Vice President Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, said his friend and former campaign staffer Tom Cosgrove. While he and his family believed his death was imminent, after those calls he “perked up.”
