Boom! Republican Lawmakers in Wisconsin Propose Legislation to Make It Unconstitutional to Accept Private Money to Help Administer Elections
In April 2021, emails released by Wisconsin Spotlight revealed an outside group, the Chicago-based Center for Tech and Civic Life, and its partner activists handed out more than $8 million in “election safety and security” grants to major Democrat cities of Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, Kenosha, and Racine. The bulk of that—$6.3 million—was distributed as part of a contract between the center and each city.
Since that time mayors from at least two of these cities refuse to sit down with Wisconsin Elections Investigator retired Justice Michael Gableman. Last month Gableman filed suit in Waukesha, Wisconsin to jail the Democratic mayors until they sit for a deposition.
Now Wisconsin Republicans are proposing legislation to make it unconstitutional to accept private grant money for administering elections.
