“Liberal Cities Risk Public Safety By Planning To Further Handcuff Police With Restrictive Traffic Stop Policies”
Despite the numerous issues surrounding ‘defunding’ police forces and the crime that occurred as a result, some liberal cities are continuing to attempt to handcuff their police forces further by forbidding certain traffic stops. According to The Daily Caller, lawmakers in Washington state are pushing a plan that would outlaw police traffic stops conducted to address lower-level traffic violations, while Oregon has already established a similar policy. San Francisco is also considering a city-wide policy of its own, which has already been implemented in Los Angeles and Minneapolis.
Experts fear that this move could prove to be dangerous to public safety, as it could impede enforcement against more serious offenses. Zack Smith, a legal fellow at the Heritage Foundation, believes that these types of policies are “par for the course” in the “war on police officers”. He added that, “when they’re not allowed to enforce laws that are on the books, it essentially leads to an increase in under-policing in many of these communities”.
