“U.S. F-22 Successfully Defends Sensitive Sites From Unidentified Object Over Canada”
On Saturday, Canadian President Justin Trudeau ordered the take down of an unidentified object that violated Canadian airspace, which @NORADCommand subsequently shot down over the Yukon. Canadian and U.S. aircraft were scrambled, and a U.S. F-22 successfully fired at the object.
Defense Minister Anita Anand held a press briefing later that evening and revealed that this was the first time a NORAD operation had shot down an aerial object. The balloon-like object, with a tethered payload, had flown at 40,000 feet, unlawfully entering Canadian airspace and posing a threat to civilian flight.
The Pentagon’s memo sent to lawmakers offered a further understanding of the situation, stating the balloon had crossed near “US sensitive sites” before the take down.
Meanwhile, the object shot down over Lake Huron, Michigan on Sunday, “subsequently slowly descended” into the water after impact.
Capitol Hill is now pressing to gain more clarity on why the Biden administration shot down three unidentified objects in three days, following the Chinese spy balloon that traversed the US the previous weekend.
