“Tennessee Democrat Accuses Republican Of White Supremacy – But There’s A Catch”

In a stunning turn of events, Democrat Justin J. Pearson was called out by fellow lawmakers for violating the dress code on the Tennessee House floor. Pearson had made a statement by wearing a dashiki, a traditional attire of the African-American community, in “homage to the ancestors who made this opportunity possible.” However, Republican David Hawk of Greene County brought up the late Lois DeBerry, a prominent female Democrat from Memphis and first woman and African American to become Speaker Pro Tempore, who had enforced the male dress code years ago.

Pearson was not aware of the fact that DeBerry was responsible for the dress code, and he took to Twitter after the incident, labeling Hawk as a “white supremacist.” Unfortunately for Pearson, his actions only caused more division in the House and among the public.

House Republicans responded to Pearson’s post, reminding him that House decorum rules were unanimously approved and suggesting he explore a different career opportunity if he doesn’t like the rules. Speaker Sexton issued a statement in which he declared that he would continue to follow DeBerry’s precedent, honoring her legacy in the General Assembly.

It’s no secret that Democrats are often quick to divide America along racial lines for political points and publicity stunts
