On Friday, the U.S. military shot down a mysterious ‘high-altitude’ object over Alaska that had been detected in US airspace. Pilots who took part in the mission gave varying accounts of what they experienced. Some reported that the object interfered with their sensors, while others said they saw no identifiable propulsion and could not explain how it was staying in the air.

The Pentagon has been unable to fully explain what the object is, but they have confirmed it was an F-22 that took out the object with an AIM-9X. Additionally, F-35 fighter jets were sent up to investigate the object before it was shot down.

U.S. Northern Command issued a statement saying they are still trying to recover the remains of the object, which is being hampered by Arctic weather conditions. Despite the lack of clarity on the object, it is known that the shootdown was ordered by President Biden.

The conflicting accounts from the pilots involved in the mission suggest that the Pentagon may never be able to fully explain the origin, capabilities, or purpose of the mysterious object.
