“Critical Race Theory Fails as Not a Single Student in 53 Illinois Schools Can Do Math at Grade Level”

The Illinois State Board of Education’s recent report card paints a grim picture: of the 3,547 schools that tested students in 2022, 30 schools across the state reported that not a single student could read at grade level, 22 of which are located in the City of Chicago. The dismal results get worse; in 53 schools, not a single student could do math at grade level, 33 of which are in Chicago.

Wirepoints reported that this “absolute failure to teach even a single child to read and do math in so many schools is yet another indictment of the state’s educational system.” Furthermore, 622 schools tested students where only 1 out of 10 could read at grade level, while 930 schools tested students where only 1 out of 10 could do math at grade level – an astonishing 18 percent and 26 percent, respectively.

To make matters worse, many of these schools are rated “commendable” by the Illinois State Board of Education – the second-highest of four “accountability” ratings a school can receive.
