“GOP Lawmaker Calls for FBI Exorcism After Bureau Caught Targeting Catholics”

On Wednesday, news emerged that the FBI had sent out a memo warning agents of the ‘radical traditionalist Catholic ideology’ gaining traction in the country. The memo, posted at UncoverDC.com by former FBI special agent Kyle Seraphin, sparked outrage; Seraphin had been suspended from the FBI without pay after stepping forward as a whistleblower.

Seraphin joined independent journalist Ivory Hecker to discuss the memo and the FBI’s targeting of devout Catholics. He warned the audience that this kind of targeting would not end with Catholics, but would spread out to other Christian denominations.

The FBI later confirmed the authenticity of the document, but admitted they had disseminated it to the rank and file. In response to this controversy, freshman GOP lawmaker Rep. Harriett Hageman suggested an ‘exorcism’ be performed on the FBI. Hageman had recently replaced Liz Cheney in the US House and was seen as a breath of fresh air compared to her predecessor.

The memo’s circulation demonstrated the FBI’s culture of hostility towards religion, a problem which Hageman argued needed to be addressed with an exorcism. The incident highlights the need for a renewed focus on the FBI’s attitude towards traditional values and religious beliefs.
